Renewal of a passport may be achieved by an American citizen through the mail or in person. Renewal by mail is an option only if the passport holder meets all the requirements. There are services online that can help this or the government provides its own version of the speed of express service.
The passport is no more than 15 years after the date of issue and must be issued before the holder was older than 16 years.
The renewal form must be printed or completed online and submitted together with the old passport.
Renewal of passport usually lasts four to six weeks if you are finished using the normal channels. In case of need that requires receipt of the passport faster than this, there are private services that accelerate the process in one or two days. These services are ideal for emergency situations, but have a surcharge.
Whether the passport holder does not meet all the requirements for renewing by mail, a trip to a passport acceptance facility local or regional Passport Agency will be required. The applicant will need a DS-11 duly completed form of proper identification. There will also need a new passport photos handy when requesting the extension.
The same rules apply to speed up the minors as adults do because they can choose between the governments or offering to go with a private service for the renewal of the passport.
Every United States citizen residing outside the country of Canada may also renew by mail if necessary.
